What a checkup actually covers
A checkup is not a quick look. It is the appointment that decides whether any of the others are needed.
Decay is easiest to treat before it is a problem you can feel.
Every tooth, every existing restoration, the soft tissue and the bite. This is where a crack, a failing filling or an early cavity gets caught while it is still small.
Teeth are only as sound as what holds them in.
The gums and the bone around each tooth are measured and recorded, so change over the years is something we can see rather than guess at.
Half of a tooth is under the gum line, where no examination reaches.
X-rays give a picture of the tooth structure above and below the gum line, and let us evaluate the bone around your teeth. They are taken when they will change something.
After gathering all of the necessary information, your treatment is reviewed with you, and the plan is built to be convenient for your lifestyle and your schedule.
Common questions
Most patients are seen twice a year. Some need more frequent cleanings and are seen three or four times, which is decided from your periodontal evaluation rather than from a rule.
Yes. The first appointment of the day is 7:00am, Monday to Saturday. Thursday runs late, to 7:00pm, and Saturday finishes at 1:00pm.
No. Radiographs are taken when they will tell us something an examination cannot, most often on a first visit and then at intervals that depend on your own risk of decay and periodontal change.
Your insurance card if you have dental insurance, a list of any medications you take, and your questions. New patients fill in a comprehensive medical and dental history, which you can complete before you arrive.
